High Brow Cat put to rest

01/11/2019 – One of the biggest legends of the western performance horse industry deceased. The legendary Cutting stallion High Brow Cat has been humanely put to rest earlier this week at the age of 31. High Brow Cat is the All Time Leading Sire in the Cutting Horse industry. According to the Equistat records his offspring has put $ 82 million on High Brow Cat’s record. The AQHA has 2.774 offspring from High Brow Cat registered of which 1.853 appeared in the show arena. His offspring was not only successful in the NCHA circuit, but also in the AQHA circuit. The stallion sired 8 NCHA Futurity Champions and 24 AQHA World Champions. 7 Direct offspring have earned more than $ 500.000 in the NCHA competition. The in 2005 born mare Dont Look Twice out of Tapt Twice from Dual Pep tops them all having $ 850.628 to her name. She was AQHA World Champion Junior Cutting 2009 and was crowned NCHA Horse of the Year in 2011. As a grandsire the influence of High Brow Cat on the industry was even stronger. According to the Equistat records his sons have sired the earners of more than $142 million, while his daughters have produced the winners of nearly $40 million.
High Brow Cat, born in 1988, is a son from High Brow Hickory out of Smart Little Kitty from Smart Little Lena and was bred by Hanes Chatham and Steward Sewell from Aubrey, Texas. At the age of 2 months the colt was purchased by Jack Waggoner and Susan Ferguson from the Waggoner Ranch in Vernon, Texas. In 2013 the stallion was sold to Darren and Julie Blanton from Colt Ventures in Dallas, Texas. Until the day of High Brow Cat’s death the Blantons continued to be the owners, since March this year in partnership with Kelly and Madison Crum from the Beechfork Ranch in Weatherford, Texas.
Several direct offspring of the legendary High Brow Cat have been successful in the European Cutting scene of which the best known the in 2000 born stallion Kiss My Cat out of Brogans Lady Pep from Mr Dry Peppy owned by Döring Quarter Horses (GER). On Dutch soil the in 2005 born gelding CD Cat Cruiser out of Fancy Little CD from CD Olena and the in 2005 born mare Lovely Magnificat out of Peppys Lovely from Peppy San Badger, both owned by Tony Bok, and the in 2005 born gelding HB Catandmouse out of Colored Field Mouse from Color Me Smart, owned by Dirk Fransen, have been active in the NCHA circuit.
