04/09/2020 – The preliminaries of the NRBC Open Classic have been concluded yesterday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the field of finalists is set. Dutch Jimmy van der Hoeven and the 7-year-old gelding Guaranteed A Magnum [Magnum With A Dream] owned by Ched & Molly Cherry came half a point short to make it back to the L4 finals. In 2019 Jimmy had a very successful year with this horse, with the highlight winning the NRHA L4 Open Derby Champion title; the pair marked a 231,5. In the NRBC Open Classic finals they ended on step 3 of the podium, marking a 223,5. Yesterday is was simply bad luck. Jimmy started off with a great set of spins but was unable to maintain that quality in the second set. The circles and first rollback were above average, but the second rollback was poor and the 219,0 score just wasn’t enough. The L4 top score 225,0 was posted by Casey Deary and the 4-year-old stallion Gunnabeabrightstar [AC Gunnabeabigstar] owned by Neiberger Performance Horses.
Dutch Ruben van Dorp and his own 5-year-old gelding Spooks Gotta Crush [Spooks Gotta Whiz] posted a 219,5 making it back to both the L4- and L3 finals. With the 7-year-old gelding Baileys Sidekick [Gunners Special Nite] owned by Ann Admonius Van Dorp posted a 217,5 qualifying for the L3 finals as well. The L3 top score 221,0 was posted by Kole Price and the 4-year-old mare Ruf Style Of Play [Not Ruf At All] owned by Axel Bouchner.
Dutch Huub Heule and the 5-year-old gelding Deadly N Dangerous [Whizkey N Diamonds] owned by McGee Farms LLC was scratched.
The Open Classic finals are scheduled for Saturday September 5. Visit www.nrbc.com for additional information and to follow the action live.
