Roses for Brian Bell and Crystalized Whizkey

03/12/2023 – 94 Combinations in total entered the finals of the $ 1.097.00 Open division of the NRHA Futurity for 3-years-old concluded yesterday in Oklahoma City. While the titles and reserve titles in the L3-, L2-, L1- and Prime Time division had already been decided, the title in the L4 division was decided by a run-off.
By marking a 223,0 Kole Price piloted Shez Got Addy Tude [Spooks Gotta Whiz] owned by Capital Quarter Horses LLC to the L3 Futurity Champion title. Mirko Midili rode Red In Valentine [SG Frozen Enterprize], bred by and owned by Luga Quarter Horses, to the Reserve Champion tile by marking a 221,5. There was a tie for third place. Both Playing With Da Boys [Spooks Gotta Whiz] owned by Neiberger-Camp Partnership and ridden by Luca Fappani and Savage Love [SG Frozen Enterprize] owned by and ridden by Marco Ricotta marked a 221,5. Fappani also claimed the L2 co-Champion title. Gabriel Diano and SS Whatcha Gun Doo [Tinker With Guns] owned by Alpha Quarter Horses LLC posted a 221,0 as well. Marcos Guimaraes piloted Shooting Wright [Guns R For Shootin] owned by Dustin Milhollen with a 219,0 not only to 3rd place in L2 but also to the title in L1. Besides that he piloted Gunna Freeze Ya [SG Frozen Enterprize] owned by Lindsey Seewaldt to 3rd place by marking a 217,0. Reserve honors were for Magnum Wimpys Dream [Magnum Chic Dream] owned by and ridden by Maxime Morin by marking a 217,5.
In the Prime Time division the podium was reserved for the ‘old generation’. With a 220,0 Craig Schmersal and Trythatnasmalltown [Topsail Whiz] owned by Cardinal Hill Training Center claimed the title, reserve honors were with a 220,0 for Todd Sommers and Hollywood Gunn [Gunnatrashya] owned by John Wilhite and 3rd place with a 218,5 for Shawn Flarida and Spooks Gotta Homerun [Spooks Gotta Whiz] owned by Tracy Cole.
L4 could have been decided in a co-Championship between Brian Bell and Crystalized Whizkey [Whizkey N Diamonds] owned by Wallace Wood and Andrea Fappani and Inferno Thirty Five [Inferno Sixty Six] owned by Stephen Archer who both marked a 225,5, but it did not. The choice for ‘The Run For The Roses’ came from Bell. Bell has already missed the title by half a point twice and this was the opportunity to grab it. It is common knowledge that Fappani does not give in easy and a run-off it was. The breath taking run-off was decided in favor of Bell. In the first set of spins Bell hit the penalty box light but that did not harm him and he compensated that with very powerful stops and roll backs resulting in a 224,5. Fappani definitely had a good run as well, but came short in the first set of spins resulting in a 223,0 and reserve honors. There was a tie for3rd place. Both Nathan Piper with Doctor Voodoo [Shiners Voodoo Dr] owned by Mike McFarlin and Cade McCutcheon and All Nite Partier [Gunners Special Nite] owned by Sotol Investments LLC marked a 224,0.
